First Fleet descendants celebrating along with the proud Aussies on the banks of the Swan River.
A few photos from some of the outings The Mint, Toodyay, Rockingham Museum, St Hildas, Whiteman Park Motor Museum

Rockingham Museum and Lunch

Picnic day at Whiteman Park

A great day at Whiteman Park with the focus on being on the Motor Museum, as the Hon Secretary of SRC, in her spare time, volunteers there and has "Inside Access" to the volumes of material that has been catalogued and the 1,000's of documents, magazines and other materials yet to be logged.

Some were afforded a look into the thousands of scale models, still in boxes and yet to be completely catalogued, donated to the museum by a generous benefactor. you can see the cartons in the pics below.

A magnificent display and a credit to all involved. Pleas put it on your bucket list as it is a MUST SEE!!!
TENTH ANNIVERSARY TRIP TO TOODYAY

Twenty-five members took the day off from their usual activities to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Swan River Chapter of FFF by taking a bus trip to historic Toodyay, formerly known as Newcastle, on 19th March.

Of those, 21 travelled by bus and the others met the bus at Toodyay, travelling under their own steam.

The first contingent of passengers boarded at Julie and Alex’ home in Murdoch at around 8am and the balance were taken on board at Toni and Ray’s home in Bedford.  The group’s regular coach captain, Alex, pointed
the bus in the direction of Toodyay, negotiating considerable road construction work before arriving mid-morning to meet the others at the Tourist Information Centre.

It was a lovely warm, sunny day (actually, it was extremely hot!) and after being equipped with local maps and information from the Visitor’s Centre, everyone went about their own way to check out the historic sites such as Connor’s Mill, the Old Gaol etc, with the occasional stop for coffee and cake.  Instructions were to meet at the Victoria Hotel for lunch at 1pm. Surprisingly        –        and probably  due  to  the  fact that the famous Christmas Shop was closed – many folks found their way to the air- conditioned hotel long before the allotted time, no doubt to ensure they were adequately hydrated.

After social drinks and tall tale-telling, lunch orders were taken before being ushered into a separate dining room.   Between main course and dessert, the group was called to order for a few words from the SRC Inaugural President, Peter Miles,          who spoke of the beginning of this Chapter and the path it has trodden since that first meeting in the North Fremantle Bowling Club rooms a decade ago.  Peter was then invited to ceremoniously cut the cake.

After an appropriate time for repast and repair, Alex brought the bus to the hotel and all travellers boarded for  a  quick  drive  through  town before alighting at the Old Gaol Museum and Newcastle Goal of 1865. Checking out the Convict Depot over
the road, which is now well setup as a museum, offering a vivid reminder of the hard life in the early days of the colony, the heat finally encouraged folks to again seek the comfort of air-conditioning in the bus, whereupon Alex drove out of town towards Julimar Forest, then back through town to take the Goomalling Road towards the new sub-division and high school.  Finally, a visit to the cemetery was in order, allowing Toni time to check out a great great granny, before it was time to head for home.  On the way out of town, the bus slowed   to allow a glimpse of the magnificent old buildings of St Aloysius and Mercy Convent, which form part of a four- building  heritage site now up for sale.

Once again, Toni supplied brain stimulating puzzles to occupy passengers as we headed back to the city by 6pm.

All in all, with thanks to Bill for his organisational skills, Toni for her entertainment exercises and Alex for his safe driving skills, it was a most enjoyable and highly successful day, celebrating ten years of activity by the Swan River Chapter.
